A sculptor by nature, Zhan Wang has been very successful in China and abroad.
Interested in the emerging tensions found in the urban space as seen in the
quickly developing cityscape, Zhan creates works like Ornamental Rock (1996)
that dialogue between new technologies and cultural traditions. As an artist
that has exhibited extensively throughout China, Zhan has also exhibited in
places as diverse as New Zealand, France, Singapore, Italy and Japan. Continuing
to practice in Beijing, as well as teach at the Central Academy of Fine Arts,
Zhan has participated in group exhibitions such as Transience: Chinese Experimental
Art at the End of the Twentieth Century (1999), at The Smart Museum of Art,
Chicago, the Shanghai Biennale (2000), Shanghai, and Open 2000, at the International
Exhibition of Sculpture and Installations (2000) in Venice, Italy. Image:
